Our Diski side have lost their encounter with Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 this morning at Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa.
It was not the game that we were expecting and played a scrappy first half that allowed Sundowns to create opportunities to play up and get into a number of positions that were scoring opportunities for them. In the 29th minute Sibanyoni scored for Sundowns after an initial shot saw Gumede punch a shot away and the rebound fell advantageously at his feet.
We tried to fight back and had a number of promising plays into the last third. However, it was just not our day, and some good keeping from Mamelodi Sundowns keeper denied us the opportunities created.
After the break, the quality of play improved. There was good linking play between Fikizolo and Sibeko as well as Siyabonga Dube. We again created a number of promising chances, but could just not get the final shot in. Sundowns defence did well to counter our plays and close down the final executions.
They managed to score again in the 65th minute, Sibanyoni getting his brace. He beat the defender in the box and scored off a cross from the right hand side. This set a big task of having to score three times for the win and while the team fought hard and created a number of chances, it was just not our day.
We have another tough game next weekend against Cape Town City and will have to dig deep to travel to Gugulethu Stadium and come back with the win.
