We retained our unbeaten record with a draw against Chippa United in Kwa Mashu this afternoon.

The first half saw no goals. Both teams were playing calculated moves as they retained ball posession as much as possible to push up and create scoring opportunities. Lentjies put the visitors in a number of scoring positions but the finshing was not on target.

We had a similar experience. Magubane had a fantastic cross to the far post, headed away from and advancing Lamola just before the break and a play off a free kick saw Lamola and Mahachi denied by a double save from Akpeyi.

The game came alive in the second half though. Chippa were awarded a free kick in the 54th minute. Just 15m from the box on the right corner. Mashego placed the ball, took his shot and it cleared the wall dipping just enough to beat Gumede and open the scoring for the game.

This fired the visitors up who had a solid 5 minutes of bombarding our defence and trying to get another goal up. Great defending from our side saw the attack through and we consolidated again.

Coach Larsen made a decision to put on some more attack in the game. He substituted Cele for Mutizwa and the game up front changed. We had a number of shots on goal from Magubane, Mahachi and Mutizwa but Akpeyi was on form and saved some crucial goals for the visitors.

Nkombelo had a break-through assist in the 65th minute from the left and fired a beautiful cross into the box where Mutizwa headed it in for the equaliser.

We were unlucky not to have scored again in the dying minute as Jooste supplied the ball from the right, both Mutizwa and Mahachi were just unable to get a clean boot in before Akpeyi again cleared.

Today was a solid performance from all of the players and we deserved more than a draw for the efforts.

We go into the international break now and return to the field on the 18th of October away against Baroka FC.
